About the Festival

The Aberdeen City and Shire Film Festival has three overall ambitions. To provide access to cinema to rural Aberdeenshire communities through the use of a Screen Machine (mobile cinema unit), to provide a programme of films by and for the youth sector, along with a celebration of films made by local directors or in the local Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire area.

The aims of the Aberdeen City and Shire Film Festival are to:

  • Provide access to a high quality cinema experience across rural communities in north, south and central Aberdeenshire.
  • Offer a programme of films aimed at the youth sector across north, south and central Aberdeenshire.
  • Provide a platform for young people from Aberdeen City and Shire to showcase and raise the profile of their work.
  • Celebrate, showcase and raise awareness of films, documentaries, and shorts which have either been made by local directors/production companies or that have been made in the local Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire area.
  • Provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and practices through various networking and workshop opportunities.
  • Showcase and provide talks on the audio/visual and electronic fine art aspects of film-making by local, national and international contemporary artists.
  • Highlight the practical pathways, professional development, and business advice available within Aberdeen City and Shire.
